Until recently, BVDA worked in partnership with the Kirana Trust. The project was based 75km out of Bangalore in the south of India. Volunteers worked with the Kirana Trust implementing projects within a children’s residential care home. The home provides accommodation for the disadvantaged, impoverished children from the slums of Bangalore. The trust also runs workshops and non-formal programmes to empower local vulnerable people.Voulunteers ran a variety of workshops aimed to improve health and welfare (i.e health and sanitation, TB, HIV) and workshops aimed to break down caste prejudces i.e. women empowermen. Other activities such as painting classrooms and gardening to feed the children staying at Brinn’s Nest were also engaged in.
