Training  is fundamental to BVDA’s approach. We aim to provide information and skills to allow volunteers to get the best out of their project. Training involves sessions on culture, health, development and education.

An important aspect of training is country and project-specific session in which project parents who are members of the committee that have already been on the project and are involved in organising the next year’s project, provide an expert insight into the

We aim to provide training that will challenge your opinions on international development and really make you think about the projects you are about to embark upon.

The training is as practically based as possible, with a good mix of visiting speakers and our own trainers leading the sessions.

Apart from preparing you for the projects ahead, training also provides a great atmosphere for getting to know your groups. This is  developed more by the team-building day during march and a drink in the pub after training!

Additionally, all volunteers must undertake first aid training. This must be completed in order to go on project.

All training sessions are compulsary. They are held weekly in the spring term and the beginning of summer term. They are normally held on Thursday evening from 6-7pm at the Students Union.

The training for the new volunteers of 2012 will start in January 2012.

                          Training in your country

Most projects also provide training within the country when you first arrive. This is a great opporunity to re-cap the UK training from BVDA as well as acclimatise and question the NGO about the culture you are moving into.
